Last month I was closing my presentation to a large gathering of small business owners when, during the question and answer period, an all too familiar question rang out from the audience: “What can I do about my slowing sales?” (I am a business-growth coach, specializing in small businesses, entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, so I get questions like this all the time.)

Feeling frisky, I asked the person who asked me the question: “Can I double down on your question?” (This event was held in Las Vegas, so everyone present was aware that by “double down” I meant that I wanted to raise the implied stakes in my answer to the question and give the person who asked the question and the entire audience even more valuable an answer.) Of course, I was granted my request.



darrylphotoSo I launched. I said, “I will not just tell you what you can do about your slowing sales. I will tell you five ways that you can double your sales very quickly.” At that point I had every audience member’s complete attention, as you would expect. I saw pens and pads of paper being whipped out all over the room. Even the conference organizer started taking notes!
